Review: Pure BB Cream

Browsing in Home Bargains the other day (as you do!), I spotted two products on the shelf which made me do a double take. At first glance, I thought I was seeing the Garnier Caffeine eye roller thinggy and BB Cream. On closer inspection, I realised that it was just mighty similar products in mighty similar packaging, for a fraction of the price. The BB craze has largely passed me by since I need quite high coverage from my foundation and didn't expect these creams to provide that. But, at £1.99, I thought this was probably worth a shot.

I chose the shade 'Light' (the other option was 'Medium', these are the only two shades available) and went home happy. According to the packaging, this product can be, "utilised as a foundation or as a make-up treatment to give you an even skin tone, smooth over any particular areas you wish to cover on the face. For under the eyes gently smooth in with finger tips. This product can be used as a concealer for smoothing fine lines and dark shadows, redness, and imperfections." According to the press release, the cream contains Collagen, Avocado Oil, Allantoin and Aloe Vera to soften the skin, Vitamin E to neutralise free radicals, and mineral pigments to even out skin tone.
Sounds good, eh? First things first - I am a lot paler than I look, apparently. Every time I get matched for foundation, we start off far too dark and the counter lady gradually realises that actually, my skin tone is akin to a sheet of A4 (slight exaggeration). So in terms of colour, the shade 'Light' is, in fact, too dark for me. If you have a normal skin tone, I'm sure it'd be fine, but if you are super pale then this probably isn't for you! The tube came foil-sealed, which I liked as you can be sure that no-one's had their grubby mitts in it, an especial concern when shopping at Home Bargains.

This was quite a thick cream with no real scent (a plus if you're sensitive to heavily scented products), which worked into the skin nicely and lived up to its claim of hiding imperfections - my skin tone was dramatically evened out. Aside from the peculiar orange shade, I liked it. This gives a dewy, glowy finish, which I would always powder off as I have such oily skin that I don't like dewy, glowy finishes. Although it by no means provides full coverage, this would be great for those days where I don't want a full face of make-up on to bum around the house and go to buy milk, but at the same time don't want to terrify the staff in Tesco with my naked face - a dab of this touched up with powder and I'd be good to go. IF ONLY I WASN'T SO PALE!!!! Maybe in summer (if we actually get a summer this year!?) it'll be a better match? The photo below show me with no other make-up on so you can get an idea of the coverage.

Have you tried the Pure BB Cream? What's your favourite BB Cream? Or have you largely given them a miss like me?

    1. The packaging's so similar isn't it! I haven't tried the Garnier one though so I can't compare the two. Thank you! :D xo

  2. I've never heard of Home Bargains! Maybe we don't have them in Norfolk? I think this actually looks really good and such a bargain. It doesn't appear to orange in the photos. xx

    1. Ahh that's a shame, they sell everything! They're everywhere up north! It is a bargain, it's a bit more orange IRL though, hopefully I'll get a tan soon and it'll look okay haha xo

  4. I picked this up today from Savers for £1.99. Wanted to try a cheaper bb cream before paying for an expensive one. I'm the same as you, A4 white paper face. But I found an ultra light one. Hopefully when I try it, it will match my skin colour. I already have difficulty with foundation!
    Love the review!
