Review: Balance Me Intensive Lip Salve

This month's Glamour magazine came with a choice of four Balance Me skincare products; you could choose from Rose Otto Intensive Lip Salve, Pure Skin Face Wash, Balancing Face Moisturiser, or Wonder Eye Cream. Priced at £12 for 10ml of product, the Lip Salve isn't the cheapest of lip products around, so what sets it apart from your average tin of lip balm?
The packaging claims, "Our petroleum-free, ultra-moisturising intensive lip salve is a daily beauty-must to plump, protect, and smooth away dry patches to leave lips kissably soft."
The website goes on to add the following: "We've blended super hydrating 100% natural hyaluronic acid and highly emollient and protective pharma grade lanolin to plump and smooth; our trio of organic shea, mango and cocoa butters to soften and protect against the elements; vitamin and essential fatty acid-laden rosehip, jojoba and virgin coconut oils to soothe and hydrate with rose otto, rose geranium and palma rosa to calm and balance. Balance Me uses the latest hi-tech natural ingredients and exquisite active aromas to create super natural anti-ageing skincare that delivers amazing results and brings your skin back into balance."

The white packaging with grey and pink detailing is simple and eye-catching, pretty without being fussy, and makes clear how proud Balance Me are of their product's 100% Natural Origin. The lid unscrews to reveal a slanted plastic applicator, which allows the product to be smoothed across the lips fuss-free on the go. When squeezed out, the salve is a creamy yellow colour with a thin ointment-like consistency; it has a strong scent of rose geranium, although this doesn't linger once on the lips and it doesn't really have a taste. It applies to the lips easily and without mess thanks to the moulded applicator, and immediately leaves them feeling softened and moisturised.

I don't personally feel that this lip salve lived up to its plumping claims, although personally that's not a feature I look for in a lip balm so I'm not overly put out by that. In terms of its performance as an intensive lip moisturiser, this is great, leaving the lips feeling soft and smooth for a good couple of hours after application. I found the scent pleasant without it being over-bearing, although I was glad that it didn't transfer to the lips too strongly, and I was really pleased by how, over the course of a few applications, my lips were left feeling smoother and more moisturised. In summary, this is a great lip salve and really does up the moisture levels for an intensive treatment. Sadly, though, I don't feel it's worth its £12 price tag and so I won't be re-purchasing. However, 10ml is a generous size so hopefully this will last me a while longer!
Did you pick up any of the Balance Me freebies with Glamour Magazine? I also got the Pure Skin Face Wash, which I'll be reviewing over the next couple of days.
