It's Looking a Little Different Round Here!

Today's post is a little bit of a ramble-y one; you might have noticed a few changes on my blog, and I've got a bit of a change of direction coming up for Just Jess. I just wanted to keep you updated and see if anyone has any suggestions etc., really!
I've not been happy with my blog's design for a while, so in the end I downloaded a trial version of Adobe Illustrator, and made myself a new header, blog button, and About Me image for my main page, which you can see to the left. If you'd like to share my new button on your blog, you can get the code from my left sidebar, and if you already have one of my previous buttons, you can update it to this much prettier version, if you like! I also have a pretty new set of social media icons, courtesy of the lovely Faye at Girl Does Geek, which I think suit my new design beautifully. I'm so much happier with my blog's overall appearance now and I hope you love it too!

A few big things have been happening in my life which have limited the time I've had to spend on my blog, including graduating in November - I love this photo of me and my baby brother! I say "baby", he's 19, 6' 1, and actually started his own degree last year - this terrifies me.

Moving back in with my parents over the summer limited my blog massively - I went from living independently, to being crammed into my tiny childhood bedroom with three times the amount of stuff as would actually reasonably fit. Don't get me wrong, I love visiting my parents, but I love having my own space more. I was hardly cooking or baking, most of my make-up was packed away in boxes, and I was wearing the same four or five outfits on rotation - leaving me very little to post about!
Then, I moved into a lovely little house with my boyfriend. We've been here almost three months now, and we're well on the way to making it our own. I'm going to be sharing little peeks into our home over the coming weeks, as that's something I always love seeing on other blogs. I'll also have a couple of related DIYs and homeware posts/reviews.
Having my own kitchen means I'm back to cooking and baking, which has been reflected in my recent posts;  my lasagne recipe yesterday, as well as Rocky Road, Roasted Winter Vegetable Soup and Lemon Madeira Cake recipes. Just Jess is getting back to being more of the lifestyle blog I started out as; back to what I love. Don't get me wrong, I'll still have plenty of beauty-related reviews, nail polish and so on, but I'm really looking forward to having a little more variety in my posts again. I've even been thinking I might start doing a couple of book reviews, something I've been meaning to do for a while. I also have plans to do a little series on my experiences with mental health - as you may know, I have a degree in Psychology, and it's a topic which is close to my heart. I really want to share my experiences, offer a little bit of advice, and most of all get people talking about mental health, as I think it's a really important area.
There are lots of big things coming for Just Jess in 2013, and I'm really looking forward to sharing them all with you. I hope you enjoy, and please let me know if you have any suggestions for other improvements, or if there's anything you'd like to see - it could be an idea for a post, or a tag, a question you'd like answered - anything! You can leave me a comment, email me or tweet me - I'd love to hear from you, even if you just want to say hello or have a chat!
Thank you for sticking with me over the last 18 months or so - I've learnt a lot through my blog, but I still have a lot to learn, and I know it's a massive cliche but I love having you lovely lot along for the ride!

  1. Ooh I love a nice personal post, moving back in with your parents into your childhood bedroom can be tough. I did it a couple of years ago, I had a large 1 bed full of stuff and now I'm back in my old small double bedroom with my boyfriend and two cats! It definitely makes life harder but it'll hopefully be worth it, we are saving up for a house! xx

  2. Sounds great Jess, looking forward to the new direction and seeing some more lifey posts. I've got so many beauty blogs on my reading list, and seeing something a bit more varied is always a nice surprise when it pops up on my feed :)
