Last weekend, I decided that it was time to sort out my make-up once and for all. I kind of intended to do this when I moved in, but we've been here almost six months now and it was getting beyond a joke; I basically had everything stacked together in one box, with no lid, which meant I had to dig through every time I wanted to find something, and things got dusty very quickly. You can see in the photo below what a mess everything was, and how much better it looks now!

I started by emptying everything out of the box and giving it a good wipe to clean the dust off. Then I sorted into eyeshadows, lip products, and face products. I liked the system I already had for my larger palettes, which are stored in a
letter rack from Wilkinson's, so I decided to stick with that. Similarly, my everyday make-up brushes are in a pretty re-purposed jam jar, which I didn't want to change, my primers are for the most part in a
pen pot which matches the letter rack, and I have a
desk tidy which holds mascaras, eyeliners, and lip crayons/ lipglosses - I didn't want to change any of these things, so I just gave everything a good clean and left as it was. In fact, all I really changed was to empty the big box onto my bed and carefully re-sort it into a three-tier stacking plastic box which I bought from Aldi; it's not the prettiest of solutions, but it works for me! I moved the empty box into the top drawer of the chest of drawers, and used it to hold samples and little jars containing hair grips, rings, etc. I also unplugged my hair dryer and straighteners, which I rarely use, and moved them into the drawer to get rid of the mess of wires everywhere.

Doing my make-up is so much nicer now I don't have to sift through heaps of products to find what I'm looking for, and it's nice to have a bit more space on the chest of drawers - my boyfriend definitely agrees!
How do you store your make-up? Do you like to reorganise it or do you stick with one system?
xo
Oh my god, how did you ever find anything before? And you have such a collection, jealous much! xx

I honestly have no idea Lucy, it was a nightmare haha! xo
DeleteIt looks so neat and pretty now! I've recently done a similar thing with all of my make up and it makes it so much quicker for me to find things when I'm rushing around in the morning - I wish I'd have done it months ago! :)

Aw thank you :) It's so much nicer having everything organised, isn't it!? xo
DeleteThat looks much better :) I like how you have adapted the letter racks, jam jars etc so that they work for you! I have two make ups bags that sit under my fulle length mirror. The smallest is my everyday go to make up - tinted moisturiser, powder, blusher, eyeliner, eyelash curlers, mascara, concealer etc. The large one then includes all my fun coloured eyeliners, eyeshadows etc that are just for special occasions. That way I can grab the little bag if I need to take make up out with me but the big one is always there :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good system! It's how I used to have everything before my collection exploded somewhat.. xo
DeleteI know I have a small make up collection but yours just makes mine look so tiny! I have like six pieces of make up (seriously) excluding nail varnishes - all those are stored on a vintage silver tray. I'm certainly not very girlie when it comes to make up and all that jazz.
ReplyDeleteHaha I'm such a girl when it comes to makeup! I like to have a choice :) xo
DeleteI can't imagine having so much make-up! I have like one of each product :D I'm so simple when it comes to this stuff :P I love how you've organised it all though, it looks lovely x
