Review: Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer

Following on from my review of Soap & Glory's Show Good Face Foundation, I thought it was time I shared my thoughts on their Kick-Ass Concealer. This concealer comes in two shades, of which I have the lighter, imaginatively named 'Light'; it's also available in 'Medium'.

The packaging consists of a small cardboard box which matches the rest of the range with its vintage styling and clever, punny text. Inside the box is the concealer compact itself, which is black and printed with pink and gold text. It looks classy and fits well with the rest of S&G's cosmetics range. The little compact opens to reveal a white powder, complete with a little "Soap & Glory"-embossed powder puff. This first layer lifts up to reveal two pans of creamy concealer, one more yellow-toned and one leaning more pink. The back of the compact explains how the product is meant to be used.

Essentially, the pink-toned side is used to conceal under-eye circles and brighten the eye area, whilst the yellow side is for "on-the-spot" blemish cover-up. The powder is used to set the cream, thus theoretically preventing any creasing or settling into fine lines which might otherwise occur. Both concealers are super creamy and really lovely to use, blending in easily and matching my skintone really well. I apply the concealer after my foundation (so that I don't end up covering up blemishes that will be covered by foundation anyway, using more products on my skin than necessary), and find that the under-eye concealer does a great job of brightening up any dark circles and making me look more awake, whilst the blemish concealer is pretty good at hiding any redness - although I don't find it's as good as the under-eye side, it's still pretty good. I'm wearing the concealer in the left of the photo below, and just primer and foundation on the right. You can see the darkness around my eye is hugely reduced with the concealer, and I look much more alive.

The powder puff supplied with the powder is quite difficult to use and I found it got grubby very quickly (although it cleaned up a treat when I washed it with the rest of my make-up brushes), so I started to apply using my Real Techniques Powder Brush instead; this brush is really far too big for such a tiny compact, but it does the job. I find the powder really helps to set the concealer and I don't get problems with it sitting in fine lines under my eyes, or sliding off any blemishes, which I have experienced in the past. I do tend to set the whole lot with my usual face powder over top, which might be a point to consider - although if your skin isn't oily enough to require this, it's probably not oily enough to melt the concealer off without!
The concealer lasts quite well and is still doing its job when I top my powder up around lunchtime, and usually lasts through the afternoon unless I'm doing something particularly strenuous; then it might require re-applying. All in all, I really like this concealer, I think it does a great job of hiding under-eye circles and a good job on general blemishes, and it's a good match for my skintone.

[Products used: The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimiser; Soap & Glory Show Good Face Foundation in 'The Fairest of Them All'; Soap & Glory Kick-Ass Concealer in 'Light'; Avon True Colour Blusher in 'Russet'; MAC MSF in 'Stereo Rose'; MUA Pro Brow Kit; Soap & Glory Thick & Fast Mascara; ChitChat Juicy Lipstick in 'Peony']
I promise I'm not just being really vain with all these photos of my face; I think the first two are hilarious! The sun was in my eyes so I was trying not to squint, resulting in a bit of a surprised expression... Soap & Glory Kick-Ass Concealer is available from Boots, priced at £10.
What is your favourite concealer? Have you tried Soap & Glory's offering?
