Review: Lanolips Lip Ointment with Colour SPF 15

I was lucky enough to receive Lanolips Lip Ointment With Colour SPF 15 in the shade 'Dark Honey' as a giveaway prize from the lovely Angelica, so I thought I'd pop up a little review sharing my thoughts! Lanolips are an Australian brand, incorporating wonder-ingredient Lanolin into a range of lip products.
They claim: "Contains over 60% Medical Grade Lanolin. Animal cruelty free. Lanolips is nature's wonder moisturiser!"
Lanolips Lip Ointment with Colour SPF 15 Review
I quite like the packaging of the product, a standard clear plastic lipgloss tube with a gold screw-cap and gold and white lettering; I especially like the little gold sheep logo, a reference to the fact that Lanolin is extracted from sheep's wool. However, the lid unscrews to reveal a straight, squeezy nozzle, which I just don't feel is the best way of applying a lip product, and which can feel like it's snagging a little on the lips as you apply it. I'd prefer a normal lipgloss applicator with a slanted nozzle as they're much more comfortable to use on the lips! I am, however, a fan of the foil hygiene seal.

On the lips, it feels comfortable and moisturising, but I don't think it penetrates the lips very deeply; it feels to me like it's sitting on the surface of my lips, which provides protection but not hydration. I also find it wears off quite quickly, leaving me feeling like I need to apply more within an hour or so, which isn't I want or expect from a lipbalm, and particularly not one that claims to be nature's wonder moisturiser!

The colour is really pretty, a subtle shade which I think enhances the colour of my lips slightly and gives a polished look, without it being obvious that you're wearing make-up, which is perfect for school and work. This is a shade that, I think, would work with pretty much all skintones as it's so neutral and wearable.
Lanolips Lip Ointment with Colour Review Ingredients
[Ingredients: Lanolin, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet almond) oil,
Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) butter,
Cera Alba (Beeswax), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) oil, Benzophenone-3,
Vitis Vinifera (Grape) seed oil, Tocopheryl (Vitamin E),
Aroma, Communis (Castor) seed oil.]
The ingredients are fairly good, although obviously the Lanolin and Beeswax mean that this isn't a product that's suitable for vegans. Otherwise, the inclusion of plenty of natural moisturisers makes me happy, although it does make me wonder why this product doesn't feel more moisturising on my lips.
Overall, this is a nice product used as a lip colour, but I'd tend to wear it over another more moisturising product if I'm looking for longer-term wear or a particularly hydrating product. Lanolips Lip Ointment with Colour SPF 15 is available from Boots in 5 shades, priced at £8.16 for 12.5g of product.
Have you tried any Lanolips products? How have you found them in terms of hydration?

  9. I've never tried one of these before but I had been tempted, I think I'll stick with the tinted balms I already have because I need something a little more hydrating than these seem to be at this time of the year. Thank you for such a great review! <3
