Review | W7 Photo Shoot Foundation

I vaguely remember picking up this bottle of W7 Photo Shoot Foundation in B&M around a year ago; I found it lurking in a box of beauty bits a couple of weeks ago when I was having a major sort-out in my room and got round to actually opening it! You know you have a problem when you can lose an un-opened bottle of foundation for a year and not even miss it, right...!? Anyhow, having recently finished off a couple of bottles of foundation (Revlon ColorStay & Rimmel Lasting Finish), I've been using this as my daily base for a couple of weeks now and thought I'd share my thoughts. W7 claim that this is a, "16 hour budge-proof foundation." Sounds too good to be true...

First up, the bottle; a frosted glass bottle with black screw cap, this looks more expensive than its ridiculously-cheap price point. I was disappointed to discover, however, that this is lacking a pump, which for me is always a massive let-down. Seriously, Makers of Make-up, what makes you think I want to bash a glass bottle on the back of my hand in an effort to get foundation out of it? Just give me a pump!! Anyhow; once I've managed to shake/cajole/bribe/otherwise extract some foundation from the bottle, you can see below that the shade I have, 'Buff', is a lovely match for my skin-tone, which is nice - when you're as pale as I am, that's a rare treat! The best way I've found of applying this is with a dampened Beauty Blender; it goes on okay with my fingers as well, but I find it sets too quickly to get a nice finish with a brush. Just something to consider. The coverage is medium and feels light on the skin; I sometimes build a couple of layers on particularly bad-skin days and it doesn't seem to cake.

You can see below that this works well to tone down redness and cover the majority of my blemishes, although I do still need a healthy covering of concealer on the dark circles under my eyes (there's actually no hiding them at the moment)! For an oil-free formula, I do feel like this looks quite shiny and oily on my skin, which was a concern at first; my skin is oily enough, thank you very much! However, it powders nicely to a matte finish and, whilst it doesn't stay matte for more than a couple of hours, it doesn't seem to slip on my face or fade as the hours pass, and I haven't noticed any oxidation either. It's easy enough to blot and dust on a little more powder after a 3-4 hours so, whilst this isn't the longest-wearing foundation I've had, it's definitely workable. It's a far cry from the claimed 16 hours, but no-one ever believes those claims anyway, right!? The back of the bottle does claim that this won't transfer to clothing which I have to point out isn't true - I change my top when I start work and again when I finish, and I almost invariably end up with foundation around my collar!

[Products used: Indeed Labs Nanoblur; W7 Photo Shoot Foundation in 'Buff';
Natural Collection Cover-Up Cream in 'Fair' (I think - the label's rubbed off!);
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in 001 'Translucent'; NARS Powder Blusher in 'Deep Throat'; 'Crème Brûlée' from Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette; Benefit Roller Lash Mascara;
Make-up Revolution ♥ Brow Kit in 'The Fairest of Them All';
Overall I'm really pleased with W7's Photo Shoot Foundation; it gives a good, buildable coverage and lasts reasonably well through the day, even if I do need to touch up with powder a couple of times. For less than a fiver per bottle, you could do far worse! I can't remember how much I paid for my bottle but I've found it at Xtras for £4.49 for 28ml here. Have you tried this, or any other W7 foundation? What's your favourite base product?

    1. It drives me mad! It's less annoying on budget products though - I'd be fuming if an expensive foundation didn't have a pump xo

    1. It seriously is super annoying and it's a shame as it lets down an otherwise great foundation! xo

  7. I know it sounds snobbish but I can't take cheap bases on my face. If there's one thing I invest on, that's foundation. It looks lovely though :)

    1. Not at all, I know a lot of people are hesitant to use cheaper foundations and it's completely understandable! The ingredients aren't brilliant but I'm lucky that my skin isn't too reactive to make-up :) xo
