Review | Boots Botanics Shine Away Invigorating Face Scrub

I've posted before about my love for the brilliantly-priced Botanics range at Boots, and whilst most of my favourite products are from their All Bright collection, I do also have a couple from the Shine Away range; with my oily skin, I'm always keen to try anything that offers to take my shine down a notch or two! The Invigorating Face Scrub is one such product, claiming to, "buff away impurities to instantly mattify and reveal shine-free skin." I'll be honest, I wasn't holding out a huge amount of hope, as my skin is extremely oily and few products actually make a noticeable difference.
Boots Botanics Shine Away Invigorating Face Scrub Review
The packaging is nothing spectacular, but I think it'd be unfair to expect anything spectacular for the price of the product! The clear plastic tube with flip-cap is perfectly functional, making it easy to see how much product is left, and easy and hygiene to squeeze out just the right amount each time. It snaps closed securely and is a product I'd be comfortable travelling with; indeed, I regularly throw it in my gym bag and haven't had any leaks so far.
"This invigorating face scrub buffs away excess oil to instantly mattify, refresh and rebalance. Unclogs pores and leaves skin feeling smooth and even. Willowbark is nature's champion clarifier. Excess sebum, pollution and old skin cells can clog up pores, resulting in shine and blemishes. The bark of the willow tree is a natural source of salicylic acid, which helps to refine skin texture and actively target imperfections."

I've become quite wary of physical exfoliators over the last year or so, but I still can't quite get away from how effective a good scrub is for leaving my skin feeling soft and smooth. I am, however, noticing a preference for less harsh products, and this Invigorating Face Scrub has slotted into my routine quite nicely; with fine exfoliating particles in a gel base, it doesn't feel harsh or rough on the face and I haven't noticed any irritation even when using it four or five times per week. I wouldn't use it every day but it has become part of my routine most days. It does contain Alcohol Denat. so mightn't be ideal for drier skin-types, but I haven't noticed any dryness resulting from using this.

I tend to use this in the shower at the gym after I've been for a swim; I don't need very much and I simply massage it into my face for a minute or so, focussing on the areas of clogged pores around my nose and chin, as well as my forehead which is most prone to extreme shininess. My skin does feel noticeably smoother after using this, and I think it does something to even out my skintone, but I can't say I've noticed a reduction in shine; I'm not really disappointed as to be honest, I didn't expect to. Despite that, I do think this is a lovely budget exfoliator, it does what I want it to at a price I can't knock! Boots Botanics Shine Away Invigorating Face Scrub is priced at £3.99 for 75ml, though it's currently half price at only £1.99, so now would be a brilliant time to give it a go if you like the sound of it! What's your favourite exfoliator? Do you like the Botanics range?

  1. Great review! I've never had an exfoliator I really liked, definitely going to try this one out! :)

  2. Sounds really good for the price, I've been looking for a new scrub that isn't going to be too harsh for my skin - may have to give this a try!

  3. I have always thought the botanics range to be brilliant! Have to try something next time I come to the UK! :D

  4. I just love the Boots Botanics range! This is a new product to me but it sounds delightful. I love using a facial scrub but sometimes I find they can irritate my skin. This ones doesn't sound to abrasive so I will definitely look into when it am next in store.

  5. The Botanics range is my favourite! Organic and amazing on my skin! x

  6. Hmm, at least it fulfils half of what it promises, haha. I've never tried anything from Boots simply because we don't get Boots here, but I'd be interested to try their products out!

  8. I have now tried a few products from the Botanics range and I have to say, whilst it might not reduce shine, it does sound like a good non-abrasive scrub x

  9. I saw this yesterday at Boots and was wondering if its good. I stood there for a good 3mins reading it, but ended up not buying it. It's good to read a review about it. I might buy it on my next Boots visit. Thanks for sharing. :)

  10. I need to try more products from this brand -- I've used their body butter before and LOVED it! :-)

  11. Sounds like a good scrub to try in colder months. I'm using one at the moment from Sisley and its brilliant x

  12. I like the sound of this, I like a face scrub that isn't overly abrasive but does the job.
