Since starting to swim regularly last year, I noticed a real change in the condition of my hair; my ends have always got dry and split quite quickly even after a decent trim, but it had reached the point where my hair just didn't look or feel nice. It never felt clean, the roots felt permanently oily and sticky, like I hadn't quite washed all my shampoo out... And it just looked blergh. My hairdresser suggested trying an anti-chlorine shampoo (I know... I can't believe it had never occurred to me, either!), and I was amazed to find an SLS-free one to try out.
Swimovate PoolMate Swimmer's Shampoo doesn't have any fancy packaging or super-pretty, Instagram-worthy branding - just a black plastic bottle with a click-down-pop-up lid which allows you to squeeze out the shampoo easily. Swimovate claim, "
Four different chlorine binding agents remove chlorine and metal ion residues from the hair. Moisturising coconut oil helps nourish and protect."
The first thing I noticed was the lovely coconut scent - coconut always smells like holidays to me so that is more than okay with me. I
love the scent of this shampoo! It has a thick pearly-white texture which is easy to massage through wet hair; I tend to shampoo twice before following with a conditioner (I'm currently using
Dr Organic's Manuka Honey one), and then towel-dry before adding a quick spritz of
Tresemmé's Nourish & Replenish Hydrating Mist combed through my ends.
Since adding Swimovate PoolMate shampoo into my routine, I've found that my hair no longer gets that nasty build-up feeling after a few swims, and it's generally in much better condition; I think with this and the Tresemmé spray, I'm onto a winning combination! My hair still gets oily quite quickly but hey, you can't win 'em all! I only use this on days when I've actually been swimming, but I don't think there's any reason not to use it every time you wash your hair as it's a perfectly functional shampoo.
The best price I've found for this shampoo is £6.27 for the 200ml bottle
here, although I've not ordered from this website so I can't comment on that I'm afraid (my Mum ordered this for me and I'm not sure where she bought it from, sorry!) - but it's also available on Amazon for £9.79
here. Have you ever used a specific swimming shampoo?

ReplyDeleteIt's been working really well for me Keely :) xo
DeleteSounds like an essential for summer with all of that swimming! I quite like that the packaging is basic too, not faffing about being fancy, it does what it says on the label!

That's a good point - at least it does what it's supposed to do! :) xo
DeleteIt's so hard to keep your hair in good condition when you are swimming a lot. I was really interested to read about the Swimovate Poolmate Shampoo - it sounds amazing. Definitely a great product to have for summer!
ReplyDeleteIt really is difficult, April! Glad you found it interesting xo

ReplyDelete- Ambar | Her Little Loves
Yes definitely Ambar, it's quickly become a must-have for me! xo
DeleteNo I've never used a swimming specific shampoo, but I don't really go swimming often. I imagine it would be a good one to take on hol though xx
ReplyDeleteThat's fair enough! It'd definitely be brilliant for holidays though :) xo
DeleteThe same thing happened to me when I took up swimming again. I started using a Boots barrier wax, which really did help. This, being coconut scented, sounds lovely. Tx
ReplyDeleteOoh I've not heard of barrier wax - I guess I'd be worried about it making my already-oily hair even oilier :/ xo
DeleteI can't remember the last time I went swimming! This shampoo sounds great x
ReplyDeleteHeather | Of Beauty & Nothingness x
I hadn't been for years until I started swimming again last summer! xo
DeleteI haven't been swimming in years but if I do, I wear a swim cap which keeps my hair dry. For the price this sounds like a great product x
ReplyDeleteAh I've never found that swimming caps actually keep my hair dry :( xo
DeleteSomething for everything now. Never would of thought but when I use to swim sometimes I'd either use a cap but was tough to get all my hair in lol or I'd put conditioner through my hair beforehand so it doesn't get so dried out. Seems like a good shampoo at a reasonable price xo
ReplyDeleteLaaLaa | Dolce Vanity
I never remember to put conditioner in before I swim! This works really well for me though :) xo
DeleteSounds like a perfect solution to a swimmer's hair issue.
ReplyDeleteIt's been working perfectly for me Galina, I'm so glad I tried it! xo
DeleteThat's such a clever idea my hair is like straw after swimming!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds great! Need to add it in my routine, once I take up swimming again x
