The lovely folks over at
Bath & Unwind recently offered me the opportunity to try out a can of dry shampoo from their range; with my oily scalp, dry shampoo is an absolute staple for me in order to avoid washing my hair on a daily basis, and I'm always keen to try new products in the hunt for the
perfect one. Lo, I was kindly gifted Moroccanoil's Dry Shampoo for Dark Tones*. But will it be entering my dry shampoo hall of fame?!
One of my number one pet hates with dry shampoo is that awful dull, chalky residue that some can leave in your roots - no-one needs
quite such an obvious indicator that they've skipped the hairwashing for the day... So the idea of a dry shampoo designed with darker hair tones in mind appealed to me instantly. Moroccanoil say, "
Ultra-fine rice starches absorb oil, build-up and odour, leaving hair refreshed and volumised. UV-protecting, argan oil-infused formula breaks down instantly, leaving no dull residue." — Sounds promising, no?
I really like the bright turquoise can, it looks lovely and summery. The scent is quite a typical haircare fragrance - nothing I could particularly identify, but it smells fresh and clean, which is what I'm looking for really in my dry shampoos! I can see the product after spritzing into my roots, but the instructions say to let it dry and then massage into your scalp as you would with a regular shampoo - and once that's done, I have to admit there isn't any kind of dull or chalky residue! My hair is left looking fresh and clean for an extra day; it doesn't feel quite as clean as if I'd actually washed it, but nor does it feel as horrible as if I hadn't done anything with it. I'm really quite impressed!

In all, this has worked really well for me, in terms of freshening up my hair to get another day's wear from a wash, without leaving any tell-tale powdery residue in my roots; it definitely works well with my mid-brown hair, although I'd be interested to see how well it fares with very dark or black hair! If your hair is on the fairer side, you could check out the Light Tones version instead, although obviously I haven't tried that!
Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo for Dark Tones is priced at £15.45 for 205ml, available
here; whilst it's on the expensive side for a dry shampoo, it's definitely one of the most effective I've tried in terms of
actually freshening up my hair, and without leaving a horrible residue. Do you have a favourite dry shampoo? Have you ever used a tinted one?

I have dark hair but I've never gone for a tinted dry shampoo. I'm quite surprised to see one from Moroccon oil as I didn't think they did dry shampoos, it sounds really interesting :)

This sounds really nice, I love the packaging. The easiest thing to do for me is pop some talcum powder in my roots and then go to sleep and blow dry it out in the morning. I saw it in a hair hack video, it is amazing! Xx

I love the sound of Moroccan Oil and have heard lots of good things. My mum swears by it for keeping her hair in good condition x
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of their being dry shampoo for different hair colours light / dark. I have started using them for a quick clean up when I've been sweating or a little too much oil on my hair. May have to keep an eye out for this one x
ReplyDeleteI am definitely going to have to try this out, as I haven't had much luck with other dry shampoos.
ReplyDeleteEven though I have had a couple of dry shampoos in my collection I never tried them fearing they wouldn't work on my afro. I wouldn't mind giving this one a try though, looks really good
ReplyDeleteOh I need something like this, my hair is really flat and greasy at the mo :(
ReplyDeleteOK I need to try this - I love a good dry shampoo and had no idea Moroccanoil did one! x
ReplyDeleteDry shampoo is a staple of my weekly hair routine as life sometimes is too busy to wash my long hair, so like you I am always looking for the next one to try! And I agree - HATE the chalkiness you can get with some! SO surprised that Moroccan Oil have brought out one...I think it's because of the idea of oil vs dryness :D I am currently using Sexy Hair's H2NO which is uh-mazing, not chalky at all and smells like candy floss.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!

Oh cool - I got a sample of one of the 'wet' shampoos the other day, must get round to trying it!
ReplyDeleteI really need to try this with my daughter's hair. She had really oily hair so this would help freshen things up I think without a bath.
ReplyDeleteI love Moroccan Oil products, but I didn't even realise they had dry shampoo in their range! I'll have to try it when I run out of my current bottle, as it sounds lovely.

Now this is such a fantastic idea, I always wondered when other brands would catch up with Batiste and do dry shampoo for other hair colours x
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like it would be right up my alley!! I love the scent of Moroccan Oil products, and I have dark hair. Maybe I'll have to give it a whirl :-)
ReplyDeleteOoooft what a price! At the rate of which I go through dry shampoo, I'd be broke so quickly! Saying that though, I am on the lookout for a good one & the saving on crap ones might make it worth it...
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great shampoo. I will be looking out for it.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds great, I had no idea morrocanoil did dry shampoo. I've got silver hair and don't wash my hair every day to stop fading so dry shampoo is a must for me.
ReplyDeleteI love Dry Shampoo! I totally agree with you about some of the product being left over and visible, I'm a brunette so I must give this dry shampoo a go!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I hate about dry shampoo is when it turns my hair another colour so it's good to know that once you massage this one in properly, you can't see it. I only really use dry shampoo on my fringe so perhaps I'll have to try this one x
ReplyDeleteI suffer with oily hair too - near my scalp. I try to wash it every other day so would love to try this - it sounds really good. Kaz x
ReplyDeleteI have never used a dry shampoo but this one sounds pretty good, might have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI've only ever used one dry shampoo and it took over my life, then I stopped using it all together when I saw what it did to someones scalp on facebook - although what she used wasn't trusty! This sounds promising though and I'll have to check it out!

This sounds fab for my hair, might have to try it soon!
ReplyDeleteI have used batiste for many many years now, there was only the original them, its amazing how many are out these days.
ReplyDeleteYeah it is a tad expensive, so will probably stick to the one i know and love, but tahks for taking the time to tell us about the different options :)
Interesting to try as I want UV-protecting haircare that cna give the refreshing look and feeling after using it. :)
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to try this product - and now you've convinced me!

This sounds like a great bargain. I will definitely be trying it out.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great dry shampoo! I must admit, I have only ever tried one dr shampoo and I hated it because it left my hair looking flakey! This one sounds fab though, with darker tones! I love the packaging as well :) xx
ReplyDeleteThis one sounds fab but I love my batiste dry shampoo!
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot of good things about this brand so I'd be willing to try this product out. It is pricey though as you say so I'd have to see if it actually did a better job than other brands out there.
ReplyDeleteThat is my problem with dry shampoo as well I hate that it makes me look like I have dandruff! I am actually waiting for my own shampoo from them to come so I am glad that it worked out well for you!
ReplyDeleteI don't use dry shampoo myself (I find it doesn't do much for curly hair) but think this is a brilliant idea. You can spot a mile off when someone has used traditional dry shampoo due to their grey dull, chalky roots. Slightly expensive but if you only use periodically then worth it!
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to try this product, I am a big fan of Dry Shampoo. Thank you for sharing your thoughts xx
ReplyDeleteI really would like to try it even though I have dark hair. I have heard so many good things from their hair range x

Ah, I have an addiction for Dry Shampoo, it's literally a life saver on some days!
ReplyDeleteI'll need to try this, since I have dark hair and I hate the ashy residue some shampoos leave! Great review, thanks, lovely!
