#1. I know it only takes 40 minutes to drive, but the traffic might be bad and I might get lost, so I'd better give myself an hour. Or an hour and a half? Yeah, better safe than sorry...#2. I'm legitimately 45 minutes early. Will anyone notice if I just sit in my car in the carpark for half an hour...?
#3. These people are all so nice!
#4. This lady is lovely but I have no idea what she's called and I've already asked twice...
#5. I... I'm not going to remember any of this by tomorrow morning.
#6. Is it too soon to have another cup of tea?
#7. Why don't these people have name badges?
#8. No, Darren from IT, I've only been here four days, I don't know who's desk that is. Or whether they use the phone. I'm sorry. I don't know.
#9. When will I start feeling like I can actually do this job?!
#10. Look at my new email signature, though! That's me!
So yeah... My first couple of weeks have seen me forgetting a lot of people's names, wondering where things are a fair bit, and being thoroughly unhelpful when Darren from IT came to rearrange all the computers while I was the only one in the office. Good times!
Is there anything you'd add to my list? What are the best and worst things about starting a new job?
xo

This seriously made me laugh. I'm just as rubbish in remembering people's names.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the new job!
I totally agree with all of these - esp asking someone their name when they've already told you multiple times EEEK
ReplyDeleteAll the best. I felt exactly like this when i started a new job x
ReplyDeleteI sat in my car for about half an hour the first time I started work as I wasn't sure about the traffic either x
ReplyDeleteThese are all so true, I'll never forget my first days! The name asking thing is the same for everyone I think.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with all of these. It reminded me of just how nerve wracking starting a new job is and how my anxiety just wouldn't cope with it anymore.
ReplyDeleteI am awful for remembering people's names!
I hope your job is going well.
Laura x x x
This is such a relatable post honestly, I always turn up crazy early x
ReplyDeleteLOL...so nice that you can find the humor in what can be a really stressful time! I've been at my job for over 6 years now, but I definitely remember the difficulties of those first few months. Thanks for sharing! xx
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great post, it is horrible being the new person and finding your way around and remembering everything x
ReplyDeleteI was an hour early on my first day and remembering peoples names ive always been good at, but remembering who sits where is a whole other issue x
ReplyDeleteHaha, setting my new email signature is one of my fave things about being a new job!
ReplyDeleteLol I take ages to remember names it's very embarrassing x
ReplyDeleteI remember my first day - it was in retail store - and I burst into the office where all the mangers were having meeting. Oops! A very nice post. xx

ReplyDeleteThese made me chuckle so much! I felt just like this 18 months ago, and they are all so very true x

haha lovely short and sweet post, made me smile :D I've been at the same job now for three years so I can't even remember the first day!
ReplyDeleteStarting any new job can be so nerve wracking!
ReplyDeleteOOh good luck! It must be stressful starting a new job but I'm sure you'll settle in pretty quickly. :)
ReplyDeleteThese things are so recognisable! I remember the first day of my first job. I had to start at 9AM (15 minute walk from home) but I left before 8AM, just to be sure. I was the very first person there, and had to wait outside of the door until someone else arrived...
ReplyDeleteOh I did laugh about forgetting people's names! I remember starting at my last job and forgetting my manager's name for what felt like weeks!
ReplyDeleteYou never know exactly what your employer expects. It takes a while until you figure out not only their expectations but also their personality. I am about to start a new job in Abu Dhabi in October and I am really looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteAw this was such a great post idea! & yes I definitely have all those thoughts and more- so much awkwardness, I love when you're settled and fully trained I'm not too keen on the first bit! I'm really glad your new job's going well and you're enjoying it! I'm sure you'll feel settled in no time :) best of luck lovely & thanks for sharing :)

Remembering names is always tough! I had the same problem at my job and then I started to make friends with people without knowing their names because it was too late to ask >.< hahah
